Muktinath certainly needs no introduction, as it’s a place and a religious site known by many of the people all around the world. It holds a high importance to the Hindus as well as Buddhists in the world the site of Muktinath has several legends attached to the formation and significance. The word Muktinath has a literal meaning which says “Salvation” or “Nirvana”.
The Pagoda style Temple is symbol of the religious symbiosis between both Hindus and Buddhists. Hindu believes that lord Vishnu got salvation from curse of Brinda here. Therefore he is worshiped as the lord Muktinath. The holy temple, which is believed to have risen on its own, is one of eight such shrines, while the others include; Srirangam, Sri Mushnam, Tirupati, Naimisaranyam, Thottadri, Pushkaram and Badrinath. It is also one of 108 Vaishnava shrines. Here in the early 19th century the Hindus set apart a Vishnu Temple and named it Muktinath – Lord of Liberation. Against a location of incredible austerity you can sit and stare to the south of the snow covered Annapurna range or to the north the Tibetan plateau. Thousands of Pilgrims come here each year in the hopes of getting this desired salvation that people believe is attained if anyone visits the holy temple.
The trip begins when you drive to Beni from Kathmandu after which you continue down to Muktinath from Beni or if you take a flight you can take one from Kathmandu to Pokhara, then from Pokhara towards Jomsom after which it’s a drive towards the temple of Muktinath. There are also, many trekking routes available to experience some of the great routes by walk. With average walking you will reach there at around 6-7 hours. March, April-May, September- October, November is considered as the best time to visit Muktinath Temple. During these months weather is usually clear all the day and snow capped mountains will be at its best.
