Pokhara is the second largest valley located in the western part of Nepal. Located in the Gandaki zone, it is one of the most famous places in Nepal for tourism and popular choice of many tourists across the globe. Rich in natural diversity, Pokhara is a center for many tourist attractions. With many beautiful natural sites to visit and fun activities to do, it is certainly one of the best choices for spending longer days for holiday.
Phewa Lake, also the second largest lake of Nepal is in Pokhara. It includes the parts of Pokhara Valley, Sarangkot, and Kaskikot. The reflection of Mount Macchapucchre (Fishtail) can be seen on this lake. Many tourists come to enjoy boating and fishing on Phewa Lake. Another main attraction of Phewa Lake is the two-storied temple of Barahi Bhagwati Temple, situated on the middle of the lake, like an island. In addition to Phewa Lake, Begnas Lake is another famous lake in Pokhara Valley, being the second largest lake in the Valley. Along with the lake, Davis falls and Mahendra cave is seemingly popular among visitors. This cave is located in a small town called Batulechaur which is a ten-minute drive from the main city. Named after the late king of Nepal Mahendra Bir Bikram Shah, the cave is a natural tunnel through which a visitor can walk exploring the rocks and the cave itself.
Pokhara valley has also been famous stop for adventurous sports like mountain biking, bungy-jumping, paragliding, trekking or even hiking. Annapurna Base Camp trekking, also known as ABC trekking, is another main attraction of Pokhara Valley. Trekking generally starts from Pokhara following Nayapul, Ghorepani, Tadapani, Sinuwa, Deurali and finally to Annapurna Base Camp which is at the height of 4090 m (13,418 ft). Many hotels and lodges are available throughout the journey. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful scenes of forests, hills, rhododendron (national flower), and many villages along the way. One study shows that ABC attracts about 25,000 visitors on the short trekking season, which is almost five times greater than Sagarmatha or Mount Everest National Park, which is the second most popular trekking destination of Nepal.
With nature at the best followed by plenty of activities to do, Pokhara continues to thrive as a leading choice of many tourists across the country and outside Nepal. Not only great outdoor activities in the day but Pokhara’s nightlife are also something to look for. The streets around evening time gets glimmered by lights along with a musical environment built by many local restaurants and bars that offers a pleasant service to slow down a day of fun-filled activities. In New Year’s time especially, there are street fests in Pokhara that are much more appealing to many tourists and local visitors.
