Taktsang Palphug Monastery

Nature At Its Best

Taktsang Palphug Monastery is also known as Paro Taktsang, this is a prominent Buddhist sacred site where and the temple is located in the Cliff-side of the upper Paro valley of Bhutan. Taktsang Palphug Monastery is one of the holiest places not only in Bhutan but also in whole of the Himalaya. The monastery has great cultural and historical importance. When the legendary Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the cave for three years three months three weeks and three days three hours, was how Buddhism was introduced to Bhutan.
Padmasambhava meditated for thirteen years in tiger’s caves of Bhutan but Paro Taktsang is best known among all.

The life of this man was said to be filled with some adventurous and unusual encounters, according to the myths, he died in Nepal but his body miraculously returned to Paro Taktsang. Padmasambhavana is therefore considered to be the second Buddha and the guardian spirit of Bhutan. There are plenty of beliefs that people consider to be true of the monastery and that Padmasambhavana is still living in the monasteries.

Paro Taktsang consists of four main temples and a group of residential shelters. All buildings are harmoniously adapted to the cliff surface; each has a balcony with fine views over the deep valley. The monks who arrive here stay at the valley for at least 3 years without leaving it. Paro Taktsang can be accessed from several directions and the temple itself is beautiful – but the access routes are not less amazing, leading through magnificent pine forests and breathtaking mountain scenery. One path near the monastery leads over a 60 m tall waterfall. Despite being one of the best desired tourist destinations, it remains as one of the holiest places in Bhutan due to the rich culture and traditions still untouched.
